Heads up: there is no official “CAPG-certified trainer” designation. Use “CAPG-eligible provider” and “courses designed to meet CAPG criteria.” Final approvals are at the Ministry’s discretion.

Are Output’s courses eligible for the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG)?

Short answer: Yes — Output is a third-party training provider and our instructor-led courses are designed to meet CAPG eligibility criteria. Final approval and reimbursement amounts are determined by the Government of Alberta on a per-application basis.

Why our courses align with CAPG

  • We deliver live, instructor-led training with real interaction (required by CAPG).
  • Our catalog maps to CAPG skills: Business Process & Operations, Technical, and Digital & Technological.
  • We’ve designed each course with a clear scope, hours, schedule, and a per-person rate (required for quotes/invoices).

Local note: Delivery available across Alberta. Online live sessions are considered to take place in Alberta; in-person delivery is available on request.

CAPG program quick answers

For-profit businesses, non-profits, First Nations or Métis Settlements, and specific rural Crown corporations (AFSC, ATB) operating in Alberta for at least 1 year, with active legal entity status where applicable, in good standing, WCB coverage, and an intent to employ trainees.

Who can be a trainee?

Employed trainees (incl. seasonal/temporarily laid-off) or unemployed/new-hire trainees meeting CAPG definitions; must reside in Alberta and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person. Owners/immediate family of owners/board, those with authority over the employer, contractors, volunteers, and TFWs are not eligible.

What counts as eligible training?

Productivity-skills development in Business Process & Operations, Technical, or Digital & Technological categories. Must be instructional with interaction with a qualified instructor, relevant to the job/business, primarily delivered in Alberta, and completed within 52 weeks of the Application Received date.

What training is typically not eligible?

Leadership/soft-skills, basic safety, conferences, self-paced/pre-recorded courses, coaching/mentorship, in-house training, post-secondary diplomas/degrees, apprenticeships, business start-up training, vendor-exclusive training, and project-based research.

How much funding can we receive?

Commonly referenced caps: up to $100,000 per employer/fiscal year. Employed trainees: 50% of eligible costs up to $5,000 per trainee/year. Unemployed trainees: up to 75% of eligible costs up to $10,000 per trainee/year. Employers pay 100% up front; reimbursement follows completion & document submission. Final decisions are at the Ministry’s sole discretion.

When can training start?

After your portal status shows “Application Received.” Training that starts before the application is received is typically not reimbursable; submit at least ~30 days before start when possible.

What documents are typically required?

Employer details (e.g., legal name & ACAN), WCB letter/exemption, training provider info, course outline & quote with per-person rate, and trainee details/consent. Unemployed trainees also need offer letter and proof of unemployment.

What costs are eligible vs. ineligible?

Eligible: tuition/instructional fees, required textbooks/software, exam fees, approved travel, course-required materials. Ineligible: wages, business assets/supplies, memberships/subscriptions, unrelated fees (e.g., U-pass), facility rentals, childcare/living allowances.

What if we need to change trainees, dates, or courses?

Email CAPG within 30 days of the earliest approved training start date. Trainee replacements must be requested before the approved training start date.

How do we get paid?

Submit the Training Completion form within 30 days of course end with receipts/proofs. Refunds/other funding reduce the eligible cost before CAPG percentages are applied. Direct deposit is available via the AEP form.
